Reflexology

Reflexology is an ancient healing art that has been known for thousands of years. It was practiced in ancient Egyptian, Chinese and Indian cultures.

Dr. William Fitzgerald, an American ear, nose and throat specialist, introduced this therapy to the West in 1913.  He noted that when pressure was applied to specific parts of the body it had an anaesthetising effect.  He continued developing this theory; he divided the body into 10 equal, vertical zones that ended in the fingers and toes, concluding that pressure on one part of a zone could affect everything within that zone.  Thus, reflex areas on the hands and feet are linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.

In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed zone therapy into what is known today as Reflexology. She observed that congestion in any part of the foot mirrored congestion in a corresponding part of the body.  For example, when treating the big toes there is a related effect in the head.  Treating the whole body can have a relaxing and healing effect helping it to maintain balance and harmony.

Because Reflexology is a Holistic Therapy, treating the whole person and not the symptoms of disease everyone can benefit.  It is suitable for all ages bringing relief to a wide range of conditions even those that are acute and chronic. Once the body has regained a state of balance and harmony it is advisable to have regular treatments to help maintain health and well being.  This safe and natural therapy may be used as a way of relaxing, balancing and harmonising the body.

What You Can Expect From A Treatment:

When the therapist begins to work on your feet or hands you will feel for the most part very relaxed, you may also have tingling sensations or feelings of warmth.   There may be discomfort in certain areas, but this will be fleeting and is an indication that there is congestion or imbalance in the corresponding parts of the body.
